Queens of the Stone AgeOf his other bands, Eagles of Death Metal are fun and Them Crooked Vultures fascinating but workaholic Josh Homme is at his best when he's rocking hard but soulfully with Queens ofthe Stone Age. 6.55pm,Stage 2.One Day as a LionThe incendiary sound you get when combining the unmistakable vocals of Zack de la Rocha from Rage Against the Machine with the powerhouse drumming of erstwhile Mars Volta sticksman Jon Theodore. 6.10pm, Stage 1.Gang of FourHugely influential, politically savvy post-punk outfit who came to prominence in the late '70s but who, despite various hiatuses and line-up changes, remain fiercely relevant hear latest album Content for proof. 4.20pm, Stage 3.The Gaslight AnthemImagine Bruce Springsteen's more spirited, punk-rock-loving sons and you're well on your way to getting your head around New Jersey's the Gaslight Anthem. Well worth arriving early for. 12.30pm, Stage 3.F---ed UpThey're not the most subtle band in the world on top of their name, their singer calls himself Pink Eyes so you won't be surprised to hear they make invigoratingly primal hardcore. 11.20am, Stage 6.The BronxBinning the sombreros of their much-loved offshoot Mariachi El Bronx, the LA crew with the New York(-baiting) name are back making the kind of raw, punishing punk-rock that has been blowing fans away since 2002. 9.20pm, Stage 4 Annex.Iron MaidenThey're one of the biggest heavy metal bands of all time not only do they have their own customised Boeing 757, singer Bruce Dickinson is piloting the band here in it. Their headlining slot at Soundwave will be a headbanger's dream come true ... until the neck-aching morning after. 8pm, Stage 1.
